We all know how addictive the Internet can be, and when a mobile phone enables us to access the web even when we’re out and on the go it can be difficult to resist. Modern cellphones are able to contain a huge number of apps and games which in theory can allow us to pass a little time when we’re on a train or waiting for a bus, but in practice they can become time-consuming and obsessive.

The iPhone is a wonderfully adaptable and exceptionally popular gadget, of course, and millions of users around the world would never consider leaving their homes without it. But many of them become hopelessly addicted, and that can’t be a good thing at all. Here are a few tips for owners who are a little concerned at their increasingly powerful obsession.

Leave the phone at home sometimes

This is, for some people, the hardest thing of all to do, but it’s something that MUST be attempted at least once in a while. If you’re one of those poor souls who are concerned about your reliance on your phone, you need to switch it off and go out for a coffee. It will only be a short break, but it could prove to be an important one. And when travelling abroad on holiday it would be sensible to leave the phone at home for the whole duration of the vacation, especially considering the roaming charges that can occur.

Be sensible with game playing

Playing games can be great fun, but they can take up great swathes of time and can lead to whole evenings being lost. While no-one is suggesting that you shouldn’t be playing, it might be wise to just set aside an hour or two every once in a while for the purpose. Games such as Words with Friends and Draw Something are wonderful, but it could be a sensible move to only play with a small group of players.

Upgrade to a tablet computer

While a tablet computer isn’t a practical alternative to the actual telephone, it can be used instead of a cellphone for many of the apps. The screen is larger, of course, so it’s much easier on the eye, and will therefore prevent optical strain. But another important difference is that using one at home will seem less anti-social to friends and family members. Although tablets are relatively expensive, they are exceptionally powerful and can be great for playing interactive games on.

David Showell is a big fan of the iPhone but he knows when to stop using it. He works for a company that supplies hire car services to the general public.

For many, the PC, computer or machine is an object of love and affection. It’s common for people to say they’d be lost without their desktop or laptop computer because of the link that they provide to other people through things like the internet. For others, relying on a machine for work, the computer is important to ensure that productivity stays high and accidents like lost files stay low. Computers are even used nowadays to play video games, edit videos and create music, as well as design buildings, overcome scientific problems and find the answers to life’s greatest mysteries.

The Different Uses For A Computer

With all these different uses for a computer, it’s important to make sure that your desktop or laptop is set up for the job in hand. Maybe your machine would benefit from a RAM upgrade or a system restore? Or maybe you just need to keep some of your odd files and photos on bespoke USB pen drives to free up space? Here are some of the best ways to improve a computer’s performance, as well as the reasons why you may, or may not, even need them at all.

RAM And What It Stands For

RAM stands for Random Access Memory, and basically functions as the short-term memory of your computer. While it’s running programs your computer will store some of that program’s code in its RAM so it can be accessed quickly, rather than it having to search through gigabytes and gigabytes of data on its hard drive. RAM generally works by reducing the amount of time your computer takes looking for files it uses all of the time. Typically upgrading the amount of RAM your computer has will make the most immediate noticeable impact, especially if it is an old computer. However, unless you’re editing big files or play a lot of PC games, you shouldn’t need more than 2GB. If you use Windows Vista or Windows 7, you can take advantage of Windows ReadyBoost and use a bespoke USB pen drive to function as your RAM, saving time and money.

Things To Consider When Updating A Hard Drive

Hard drives are also one of the most upgraded components in a computer. There are normally two different things to consider when upgrading a hard drive – speed and capacity. Hard drive speed is important as a faster spinning hard drive will allow your computer to find, read and write data more quickly, reducing everything from boot times to the amount of time it takes to open photos and videos. Capacity is also something to consider if you either download or create a lot of big files like videos, as a bigger hard drive will give you more space. SSD, or solid storage drives, are becoming increasingly more common and offer very fast speeds in trade-off for a smaller capacity. When upgrading, try and decide which one you want most.

Remember To Upgrade Your Processor Upgrade Last

Your processor is usually something you wish to upgrade last, as it can occasionally require a new motherboard which usually requires new RAM to be bought. Processors are also typically the most expensive component to replace, but they can have a massive impact on your computer’s performance. Processors can reduce the time taken to load web pages, as well as operations on image editing programs and video manipulation suits will typically be faster. Generally, when buying a new processer look for a higher clock speed (measured in Mhz or, more commonly Ghz), as these will dictate how fast the processor will be. Bear in mind that a higher clock speed does not always result in faster processors. Dual-core processors are generally always more powerful than single core equivalents, just as quad-core are more powerful than dual core.

There are a number of different ways to upgrade your computer, but they all vary on your needs and uses for your computer. USB Design offers a range of options from the inexpensive, like through the use of a promotional USB pen drive, up to fully customised branded USB sticks.

A new way of starting events in your smartphone is now available. It operates similar to a QR code, but this is something you will never see or hear until later. It works by using something called an “audio tag”. Read on to find out more on this updated way to interact with your surroundings using your smartphone here in this informative article.

Technology To Avoid Your Ears

Your ears can only hear a small section of what is in the audio spectrum. If you are older than 20, you can hear even less of that spectrum than when you were younger. But your smartphone can hear the whole spectrum. A new group called SonicNotify embeds very high pitched signals within music or any other audio track. The smartphone can respond to the signal because it is a machine, while you are never interrupted.

You Will Never Hear This App

The user of the SonicNotify platform can not hear the audio tags being sent to their smartphone. If a person who has the app in their smartphone during a music concert, the people giving the concert can send out that special “SonicNotify” signal. The smartphones in the audience will hear it, but the people will not. One result that could happen with this concert is that the people listening in and who view their smartphone screen will be able to vote on what song they want to hear. Of course, the singer could just ask, but that would be less fun.

The Creators Could Use Some More Help

The people at SonicNotify have not had as much popularity with their unique idea as some other app makers. They have acquired just $300,000 dollars so far for the app. They call their software “presence based content delivery”, which sounds like a new category of content. The technology they have created is patent pending and can be delivered through a multitude of venues. In the car a radio station can send out a SonicNotify signal. While watching a movie, the speakers on the television can send out the special signal. Marketers will be hoping to use this just like they use the ubiquitous QR code.

This Audio Tagging Platform Is Already In Use

The SonicNotify team claim that their creation is not an app, but a platform. They have more than one software available for download. The iPhone and Android platforms are the first to get this audio tagging ability. This is presently being used by some popular singers to get the “secret” message across to the smartphones that are “listening in”.

This article has been written by Kevin Pritchard who is a contributor to clickdiscounts.co.uk where you can get some useful vouchers to help you make some interesting savings.

Remember, if you rely on the software unlock (Ultrasn0w), DO NOT update to 5.0.1 but if you don’t care about the software unlock, make sure to update your A5 device to 5.0.1 before it’s too late based on p0sixninja’s tweet.
